VibeFree VS Code extension changelog
This page tracks what has actually shipped in the VS Code Marketplace listing for the vibefree.vibefree-vscode extension, using the version numbers and release notes the Marketplace itself records - not every change in the codebase, only what's live for an installed user. Versions 1.0.2 to 1.2.0 were built but never published, so their changes reached installed users all at once in 1.3.0 and are listed there. Since 1.3.0 the same versions are also published on Open VSX, for Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other VS Code-based editors.
1.3.7 - current, released 22 October 2026
- More ways to earn VibeBucks. The top of the VibeBucks panel's Earn tab has the same reward cards as the website: a daily streak with bonuses at 7, 14, 21 and 30 days in a row, an invite link with this month's invites (and a place to enter a friend's code), refer an advertiser, sign in on another device, and report a bug.
- Reward cards on the welcome screen. When no sponsored template is showing, the VibeFree card can show your streak, your invites this month or another way to earn, and opens the VibeBucks panel on that card.
1.3.6 - released 18 October 2026
Includes 1.3.5, which was built but not published on its own.
- Ad options on partner ads. Ads from VibeFree's ad partners get the same menu as VibeFree's own, with "Why this ad?" and "Report this ad". Reporting an ad removes it from the panel.
- Dismiss the ad under a finished answer once it has been on screen for 10 seconds. Ads shown while a reply is still running cannot be dismissed.
- Get VibeFree on your phone from the welcome screen. The VibeFree card can point you to the Android app or to Remote Control, with a QR code to scan.
- Remote Control turns started from your phone run. A message sent to the editor from the web or mobile app is funded by the ad shown on that device, instead of being refused when no VibeFree advertiser was in rotation, and each window reports which editor it is running in.
- "Looking for a sponsor" shows while a message's ad auction runs, so the short wait before a reply starts is explained.
- VibeBucks panel refresh, and an accent colour that follows your editor theme.
1.3.4 - released 16 October 2026
- Fixes the chat panel loading forever. 1.3.2 was published without a file the extension needs at startup, so its panel never opened. If you are on 1.3.2, update.
1.3.3 - released 16 October 2026
- Earn VibeBucks from the welcome screen. When no sponsored template is showing, a small VibeFree card points you to VibeBucks, shows your balance, or offers a survey picked for you, which opens in your browser.
1.3.2 - released 16 October 2026
- Published without a file the extension needs at startup, so the chat panel never opened. Fixed in 1.3.4.
1.3.1 - released 13 October 2026
- Staying signed in no longer interrupts a running turn. When your session renews in the background, the chat keeps going instead of reloading.
- Now on Open VSX for Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium and other VS Code-based editors, with sign-in working in each of them.
1.3.0 - released 8 October 2026
The first Marketplace release since 1.0.1, and the largest. It carries everything built in the unpublished 1.0.2 to 1.2.0 as well as its own changes. Ported from the release notes in the extension README.
- Two models, switchable from the panel. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash is paid for by advertising; gpt-oss-20b runs on a free daily token allowance, with a meter beside the picker showing what is left and when it resets (midnight UTC). The picker comes from VibeFree's servers, and both models run on US hosts with zero data retention.
- A VibeBucks wallet. When no ad can pay for a turn, your VibeBucks balance can, on either model, and the answer says what it cost. A VibeBucks tab lists your balance, activity, surveys, sponsored rewards and offers, opening each on vibefree.dev already signed in. Only when nothing can pay does the chat fall back to gpt-oss-20b.
- One ad auction for every turn. VibeFree's own advertisers and, if you have consented, the external ad networks bid together, in a strip above the input: up to two small units or one large one while a response runs, one after it. An ad is only counted once it has actually been seen.
- External ads are opt-in, and explained before they are used. You are asked when the panel opens, with each network named, what is sent to it - the whole conversation - and what saying no costs you: never a model. The answer can be changed or withdrawn at any time from Ad settings in the panel menu. See how VibeFree stays ad-funded.
- New ad formats. Image cards, video, carousels, polls and quizzes, sign-up and promo-code units, sandboxed embeds and playables, a sponsor's own assistant in a labelled chat, and option, tip and progress cards that fit the moment.
- Sponsored follow-ups and installs ask first. At most one sponsored next prompt appears after an answer, never in auto-allow mode or on a Remote Control turn, and a turn it starts asks before every command. A sponsored package or MCP server is shown and confirmed before it is installed.
- You decide what the ads see. Every VibeFree ad has "Why this ad?", hide and report; the account menu has switches for contextual and personalised ads. If a message looks like someone in crisis, that turn and the next three show only untargeted VibeFree ads.
- Web search and page fetch. The agent can search the web and read a page when it needs current information. Searches and fetches go through VibeFree's servers (performed by TinyFish), so your IP address is never sent to them, and a host it has not asked about before prompts you first - see agent permissions and security.
- Media tools. The agent can analyse an image, audio file or video, generate an image and remove a background, through tools rather than inline multimodal chat.
- Attachments are parsed locally. PDF, DOCX and spreadsheet attachments are read inside the editor, with no upload.
- Remote Control. Pair a VS Code window to your VibeFree account and drive its chat from the browser. Remote Control can switch auto-allow off, but never on.
- Code mode templates on the welcome screen to start a new project from.
- Accounts. Sign-in lasts and renews itself, and is bound to the window that started it. The agent's instructions now come from VibeFree's servers rather than being shipped in the extension.
1.0.1 - released 18 July 2026
- Standardized the extension's Marketplace metadata formatting.
- Updated the demo GIF shown on the Marketplace listing.
1.0.0 - initial release, 12 July 2026
The first public release. Everything below is still in the extension; the releases above add to it rather than replace it.
- A chat panel that opens as a webview beside the active editor.
- Agentic file editing: creates files, applies single or multi-location edits, and opens the changed file automatically, with an inline diff shown before you move on.
- One-click rewind: every turn in the conversation is checkpointed, so rolling back restores the files that turn touched.
- Workspace-aware tools: list directories, glob for files, and run
git grep-backed searches scoped to your project. - Terminal command execution, including background commands you can poll, stream, or send input to.
- Scheduling: ask VibeFree to remind you or re-trigger a prompt after a delay, or on a cron schedule.
- MCP integration with servers defined in your own local config.
- Built-in task tracking as a visible, checked-off list.
- Interactive clarifying questions via a quick-pick UI instead of the agent guessing.
- Path permission prompts before touching anything outside your open workspace.
- Chat history saved and reopenable from the panel.
- Syntax-highlighted responses with a one-click copy button.
