Vibe coding getting too expensive?
VibeFree brings free AI coding straight into your editor as a VS Code extension (extension ID vibefree.vibefree-vscode), funded by ads instead of a subscription.
- Picks between two models from the chat panel - DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, or gpt-oss-20b on a free daily token allowance.
- Reads, creates, and edits files across your project, with inline diffs in the chat panel.
- Greps and globs your entire codebase to find the right code before editing.
- Runs shell commands and manages long-running background tasks.
- Connects to any MCP server and calls its tools directly.
- Keeps its own task list for multi-step work.
- Sets one-shot timers or cron jobs that ping the agent - and you - when they fire.
- Searches the web and reads a page when it needs current information, through VibeFree's servers rather than your machine - see agent permissions and security.
- Parses PDF, DOCX and spreadsheet attachments locally, inside the editor, with no upload.
- Fetches URLs and previews images, video, audio, or files in the chat panel.
- Checkpoints every turn, so one-click rewind restores the files that turn touched.
- Pairs to your browser or the Android app with Remote Control, so a VS Code window can be driven from anywhere.
- Asks a multiple-choice question when it needs a decision, instead of guessing.
Frequently asked questions
Is the VibeFree extension really free?
Yes. The VibeFree VS Code extension is free AI coding, forever - there's no subscription and no credit card required. It's funded by short ads shown in the chat panel instead of a monthly bill.
What is vibe coding?
Vibe coding is describing what you want in plain English and letting an AI agent write, edit, and debug the code for you inside your editor. VibeFree brings free vibe coding to VS Code.
How does the extension stay free forever?
Instead of charging a subscription, VibeFree shows short, labelled ads from developer-focused advertisers while the agent works, beside its finished answer and at a few moments in a coding task. Ads stay out of the answer itself, with one exception you have to opt into: if you allow external ad networks, one of them can ask the AI to mention a sponsor inside its answer, always marked as sponsored. That ad revenue covers the AI usage, so coding stays free for you.
Which editors are supported?
VS Code, and editors built on it - Cursor, Windsurf and VSCodium - through Open VSX. Beyond the editor, the web chat, VibeDesign and the Android app are live and free now; a standalone IDE, a CLI and the Windows desktop app are still in development.
Can I advertise to developers on VibeFree?
Yes. Advertisers can bid for labelled ad units inside VibeFree's own apps, the VS Code extension included, and reach developers directly while they code - self-serve, from one block. Visit the Advertise page to set up a campaign.
